Unconditional, the movie

Unconditional is a film you don’t want to miss—unless you’re scared of having your heartstrings pulled on that is. And it’s in theaters this weekend.

Unconditional is a story of tragedy and redemption drawn from the true-life testimony of Papa Joe Bradford from Tennessee but also focusing on Samantha Crawford and the untimely and unresolved death of her husband, Billy.

Sam’s idyllic life as a promising writer and gifted artist, and as a much-in-love young wife on a ranch in Tennessee, is smashed to pieces by the murder of her husband, Billy—a tragedy that rips away her faith and her very will to live.

Rescued - The Heart of Adoption and Caring for Orphans

Rescued – The Heart of Adoption and Caring for Orphans is now formally one of my favorite films with its powerful, soul-probing, tear-jerking message—and its backdrop question: What would a church that obeys James 1:27 look like?

The dilemma of a growing orphan population is one that is not widely discussed in the average church. On the contrary, it is little talked about. And therefore adoption as a way to end the orphan crisis is barely discussed either—even though adoption is the heart of the Gospel message.

Yet, over 160 million children in the world are without any parents.  And America boasts the stunning figure of some144,000 boys and girls in foster care needing to be adopted.

Through some candid and inspiring interviews with adoptive families, Rescued – The Heart of Adoption and Caring for Orphans highlights the call to serve the fatherless, the hard-core realities of what it involves and the addresses the following questions:

Is God asking me personally to adopt? How can I know?
Do I have what it takes to adopt?
Will I love an adopted child the same as a biological child?

Somebody's Child

Somebody’s Child, another faith-centered GMC TV world première film, recounts the compelling story of a family battling life’s tests with a long-kept secret in the mix.

Let's just say that...those who enjoyed Raising Izzie will love Somebody’s Child—a drama cozily wrapped in family values with redemption at the core.  (I know, just a wee teaser. You need to read the full review for more.)

The Breakthrough

The Breakthrough, the third book in the Precinct 11 trilogy by bestselling author Jerry Jenkins, is awesomely nerve wracking. Sequel to The Betrayal and The Brotherhood, this novel unfolds a new drama involving the police squad of Chicago’s Precinct 11.

As Jenkins fans have come to expect, the storyline does not disappoint. It provides suspense, entertainment, believable characters—all the while probing into issues of the heart, faith and ethics.

After going through one of life’s greatest tragedies, the loss of his wife and young son, Chicago cop Boone Drake begins a new life with a sweet new family and renewed faith. All is rosy and God seems to be pouring out blessings when Boone suddenly finds himself again in the midst of unfathomable tragedy—worse than his previous loss.

Boone’s faith is again tested. Will he trust God—no matter what the outcome might be? Can he sit low and leave this heinous crime—a crime that is poignantly personal and tormenting—in the hands of fellow detectives?

Shaken to the core, yet unable to shake off his detective instincts, Boone is driven to help find the criminals—a trek that leads him to unimaginable arenas of terror and darkness. He finds himself caught up in the underworld of child trafficking.

The Breakthrough is more than just a good read. It is a masterpiece of Christian fiction that unveils the atrocious realities surrounding child abduction and the perverted greed that drives it.

The Breakthrough comes out in September. Look for it in bookstores everywhere.

Pilgrims & Prodigals

It’s back-to-school again and, for many kids, that means returning to an education void of the classical arts. But here’s a timely, musical treat spiked with artistry and virtuosity, Pilgrims & Prodigals—a debut album by The Annie Moses Band—available nationwide on September 25.

The Annie Moses Band, best described as classical crossover, comprises of six siblings, all musical prodigies with myriad music awards between them (and some band members are also Juilliard graduates). Parents, Bill and Robin are the band’s backbone, creating musical arrangements and writing many of the songs featured in Pilgrims & Prodigals.
